Burn Permits
To obtain a burn permit, print out the form below, fill it out and contact the Fire Chief at (208) 244-0047 for approval. There is no cost for a burn permit. If you have questions or concerns, please contact the email address or phone number on this site.
All burning must be conducted between sunrise and sunset.
No fire shall be kindled or maintained within 50 feet of any structure.
Fires shall be under constant supervision by permittee or other competent adult until such fire
is extinguished. Should burn become out of control, the permittee may be held responsible for cost of suppression as well as property damage sustained by others as a result of the fire.
Person supervising fire shall have a water hose connected to an adequate water supply and/or
other appropriate firefighting equipment readily available for use.
The fire chief may prohibit any and all fires when atmospheric conditions or local
circumstances make such fires extraordinarily hazardous.
Permittee shall no ignite fires when atmospheric conditions would make controlling a fire
difficult. If conditions change during a burn that makes controlling the fire difficult, the fire must
be immediately extinguished.
No person shall kindle a fire upon the land of another without written permission for the
owner or agent thereof.
The permittee shall not burn when conditions would allow smoke, odor, or heat to enter upon
the property of another or upon roads thereby creating a traffic hazard. Material that creates
dense smoke or odor shall not be burned.
The Sheriff Department Dispatch Center (208) 236-7114 must be notified prior to starting the
burn and when the burn is completed.
The permittee shall not hold Pocatello Valley Fire Protection District liable for any damage caused by
any fire started or controlled by permittee.
No person shall allow, suffer, cause or permit any open burning operation unless it is a category of open burning as set forth in the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare Rules and Regulations Section 01.1153 and does not include any of the following materials:
1. Garbage
2. Dead animals or parts thereof
3. Junk motor vehicles or any materials resulting from salvage operations
4. Tires or other rubber materials
5. Plastics
6. Asphalt or composition roofing or any asphalted material
7. Tar, tar paper, or tar paper waste
8. Petroleum products, oil, paints or solvents
9. Lumber or timbers treated with preservatives
10. Commercial or industrial waste
11. Demolition Debris
12. Insulated wire
13. Pathogenic waste
14. Hazardous waste or chemicals
15. Trade waste except allowed in Idaho Department of Health and Welfare Regulations, Section 01.1153
